In the year 2005, a computer virus called "Pluto Kiss" destroys the networks of computers all around the world, subjecting the cyberspace to severe restrictions. Two years later, as free access to the networks recovers, people are now crazed over a full-immersion virtual gaming environment called "The World."
However, when reality and virtual reality collide, a whole new adventure unfolds as a mysterious accident leaves Wave Master Tsukasa permanently logged in. Now a group of ciphers must figure out the truth behind Tsukasa while a rash of mysterious game-related incidents in the real world begins to draw the attention of even the most powerful players within the game.
Tsukasa has been captured by the Crimson Knights! Subaru talks with him and tries to understand his plight, but the unbalanced Sora stages a jailbreak and disrupts everything! Confusion mounts within the group as Mimiru confronts BT about her betrayal. Mimiru decides to give it all up, but after a chance encounter with another player, she changes her mind. As the clues unfold, everything points to a powerful legendary item called "The Key of the Twilight". Could this be the source of all the trouble in "The World"? Everyone seems to think so. Alliances are formed and plots are hatched as all eyes fall towards uncovering the whereabouts to this new item.
Mimiru, Bear and Tsukasa participate in a sponsored event and seem to have a good time at it. However, in the real world, a doctor and a parent discuss the fate of a child in a coma. But who is it?
After the battle at the upside-down castle, everyone but Tsukasa is returned to a regular field in 'The World'. Did Tsukasa die? What happened to him? Captured by a previously friendly unseen force, Tsukasa reappears with parts of his memories, thoughts, and feelings "missing". Is this really Tsukasa or just a copy of the character’s data? The other characters have their own problems as well - Subaru discovers that the Silver Knight have been hiding messages from her with the latest request by the System Administrator threatening to end with disastrous results!
IT IS THE YEAR 2010. After the great network crash of 2005, online entertainment was restricted. Two years after, the CC Corporation released the first Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing game since the incident. The extremely popular game, called "The World" sells millions of copies. And when that many are playing, things are bound to go wrong. A mysterious boy, who calls himself Tsukasa, appears. He is very mysterious, and he claims that he is actually alive "in the world" - that he isn't a person in front of a computer. He is branded a server malfunction by Ginkan and the Scarlet Knights, and is pursued.
In preparation for the final battle, everyone arrives in Net Slums, a hidden area created by Helba out of data remnants and discarded files. Subaru and Tsukasa are finally reunited and together they resolve to see things through to the end, but not before making a very important promise. Meanwhile, Sora has sided with the enemy, Morganna! Even though all hope seems lost, they all battle against the forces of Morganna! Friendships will be tested. Alliances will be broken. Lies will be revealed. Lives will be ruined. All because of a sleeping girl who holds the power to change everything in 'The World'.
