dotHackG.U. the anime is loosely (very loosely) based on dotHackG.U. the PS2 RPG. The makers tried to condense three 80+hour games into one and half hours, but because it wasn't hanging together they needed to put in some extra scenes to explain what was happening. Far too much, however, was left out for the anime to be compared to the game in any way – despite the inclusion of a couple of Boss Fights. The dotHack gang should've taken a leaf out of the Persona team's book and made the anime of cutscenes from the game(s) linked together by extra footage when necessary. Instead what we have is a mishmash of ideas strung toghether by the recurring theme of online gamers going into comas. Yes, there are some of the game's cutscenes but they don't add anything special or explain anything. Indeed, what this dotHack anime lacks is the dynamics that made the PS2 G.U. game trilogy so great.
