It is clear that the author is expressing a deep belief in learning, appreciating, and knowing how to use the skills of the mountain men of the Old West. McCowan has adopted the knowledge and understanding of the mountain man way of life. In fact he has become a mountain man himself. McCowan's "The Guardian in the Wilderness" is one of those terrific books you can't put down. He's a great storyteller.
Author Biography
A self-taught mountain man, who hikes every day in the hills, mountains of New Mexico, even though he has an injured hip. Paul Hoylen teaches art in the Public School System of Luna County, New Mexico.
