A fascinating life story, spanning eight decades, lovingly and expertly compiled by the award-winning team of director Paul Balmer and producer Judy Caine, and presented in two parts, each with the option of viewing without over commentary, a boon to those who object to superfluous and intrusive chat by talking heads such as experienced in the Ken Burns' Jazz series on BBCTV last year.
The producers claim that the music enthusiast has been poorly served by conventional broadcast 'profiles' where often the voiceover is louder than the actual music. 'A typical television music profile contains 90 per cent words and 10 per cent music - this is simple economics,' says the production team. 'Words, however, always fail to explain music. At Music on Earth, we suggest the time is right for a new approach giving choice, at last, to the viewer…'
In this unique new way of presenting music documentary, the viewer is given the choice of hearing the music uninterrupted, accompanied by a speech contribution or a chance to access the director's commentary.
