"Getting Stronger" is widely regarded as the best general book on weight training in the world. Author Bill Pearl is a four-time Mr. Universe and bodybuilding legend, and his 432-page book includes three types of weight training: specific training for 21 sports; programs for bodybuilding; programs for general conditioning. "Getting Stronger" has the following new chapters: Nutrition, Nutritional Supplements, Injuries, and Drugs. There are new sections on equipment, injury rehabilitation (exercises for shoulders, knee, and lower back), the Keiser Circuit (especially good for people over 50), and stretching. In the tradition of "Shelter fitness" books there are some 2000 illustrations covering 350 exercises. The heart of "Getting Stronger" consists of over 100 one-page fitness programs with pen and ink drawings. This way you can look at just one page (or a photocopy of it) and do your entire workout routine. Each lift is keyed to another part of the book where there are specific instructions for that lift.
