Description

This book introduces the reader to the core issues informing the gender and environment nexus today. Taking a feminist and place-based analysis, prize-winning author Wendy Harcourt explores the gendered dimension of key issues such as gendered territories, resources, food and energy crises, climate justice, technologies, embodiment, consumerism, ecofeminism, biopolitics and alternatives to mainstream development. Setting the scene for future books to be published in the Zed Book series Gender and Environment, Harcourt proposes an entirely new way of thinking of feminist political ecology. Taking up both men and women's contribution to ecology, it looks at the 'big' picture as well as what can be learned from the myriad of community and networked resistances to that are putting into practice alternatives to the dominant economic model.
