"Once you start reading its hard to put down"

This is a really different book from others Ive read – you have to read very thoroughly as the story has no real introduction to the characters like other fantasy series – it starts straight in so pay attention. Took me about a quarter of the book to get really into it but now I really want to read the next one. If you want something a little different from the run of the mill stuff then read this.

"Captivating and intense"

I was looking for a replacement series having finished The Wheel of Time recently. I read some reviews that touted this series as deep, complex and even a challenge. Well challenge accepted! I couldn't put this book down. It was fast paced and intriguing. I'm already into book 2, it's exceptional. If you love fantasy you'll adore this !

"Great book and good reading" Purchased on Mighty Ape

Love the series. It's one of those books that has a story you want to go on and on, just to see what happens next.

Bled dry by interminable warfare, infighting and bloody confrontations with Lord Anomander Rake and his Tiste Andii, the vast, sprawling Malazan empire simmers with discontent. Even its imperial legions yearn for some respite. For Sergeant Whiskeyjack and his Bridgeburners and for Tattersail, sole surviving sorceress of the Second Legion, the aftermath of the siege of Pale should have been a time to mourn the dead. But Darujhistan, last of the Free Cities of Genabackis, still holds out - and Empress Lasseen's ambition knows no bounds. However, it seems the empire is not alone in this great game. Sinister forces gather as the gods themselves prepare to play their hand…Conceived and written on an epic scale, Gardens of the Moon is a breathtaking achievement - a novel in which grand design, a dark and complex mythology, wild and wayward magic and a host of enduring characters combine with thrilling, powerful storytelling to resounding effect. Acclaimed by writers, critics and readers alike, here is the opening chapter in what has been hailed a landmark of epic fantasy: the awesome 'The Malazan Book of the Fallen'.

"Steven Erikson is an extraordinary writer. My advice to anyone who might listen to me: Treat yourself to Gardens of the Moon. And my entirely selfish advice to Steven Erikson: Write faster."-Stephen R. Donaldson

"An astounding debut…has the potential to become a defining work."--SF Site

"Complex, challenging…Erikson's strengths are his grown-up characters and his ability to create a world every bit as intricate and messy as our own."--J. V. Jones, SFX

"Gripping, fast-moving, delightfully dark, with a masterful and unapologetic brutality reminiscent of George R. R. Martin.Steven Erikson brings a punchy, mesmerizing writing style into the genre of epic fantasy, making an indelible impression. Utterly engrossing."--Elizabeth Haydon
