Description

New friends, best friends, imaginary friends, animal friends and even fighting friends are part of this resource, designed to help teachers and librarians plan literature-based programmes and units. This guide introduces picture books on the theme of friends and provides related activities to extend learning. Each of the six chapters begins with a brief introduction and a focus book on the chapter theme (e.g best friends), followed by suggested whole language activities for speaking and writing experiences. An annotated bibliography of related titles (approximately 60 in all) follows with an original story. A range of story presentations is offered, including flannelboard, cut and tell, participatory, mask stories and stories with puppets. Chapters also include related activities, such as fingerplays, action rhymes, poems, songs, chants, games and activists appropriate for pre-school and primary grades. Written by the authors of best-selling title "Mudluscious", this book is the first in the Peddler's Pack series, designed for pre-school teachers, day-care providers, elementary teachers in the primary grades and children's librarians. Other titles in the series will cover themes of folktales and food.
