Description

The seventeenth-century Gurneys, Barclays, Hanbury and Hoares were part of the Quaker movement. Their integrity gained respect and attracted investors to the banking, weaving and brewing industries they started. Later Buxton led the anti-slavery campaigns and Elizabeth Fry set about reforming prisons. A remarkable international family well researched by Verily Anderson, who still lives at Northrepps, the Gurney family home in Norfolk. This reprinted version of her 1980 classic, originally published by Hodder & Stoughton, will meet the demand for knowledge of this family, and is a good companion to her "Northrepps Grandchildren" already republished.
