Description

This book presents Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics (LEFM) as a way to analyze deformation and cracking. The advantage of this method is that it can improve the engineering design of such failure critical structures as bridges, dams, toxic or hazardous waste landfills, and nuclear power plants. Understanding the fracture mechanics of concrete and rock is key to preserving our infrastructure. It also presents experimental evidence of damage for a number of design cases.
