Socrates is on trial for corrupting youth through his argumentative approach to issues of the day, which calls for people to examine their beliefs and test them for truth. During his defence he refutes the accusations and points out the hypocrisy of those who bring the charges against him. His refusal to accept a false accusation or a reduced sentence lead to a guilty verdict and the price to pay is death. Even the pleading arguments of his friends to flee are dismantled by Socrates who in step by step, question and answer logic, confirms the correctness and the moral need for him to accept the sentence and therfore end his life. A good example of logical thinking and the moral importance of truth to self even when the cost is great.
