Description

Excerpt from Fifty Reasons for Being a Homoeopath The protestations that the Obnoxious epithet was not meant to apply personally to me I could not accept, for I affirmed it to be a necessary sequence that if the homoeopaths as a body are quacks, it must follow that I - the individual homoeopath - must also be the same. Be that as it may, I wound up by saying to Dr. K My dear fellow, your mind is as full of scholastic conceit as an egg is full Of meat, and you are therefore a doomed man so far as scientific medicine is concerned; your cup Of knowledge is full, but full of knowledge of the wrong sort; your knowledge is like those Neapolitan walnuts there, which have been dried in a kiln, and thereby rendered sterile; plant them and they will not germinate, and it is just thus with your scholastic learnings all you know was first dried in the kiln Of the schools, and has been rendered sterile incapable of germinating. Kiln-dried walnuts have a certain value as food, but they are dead; your knowledge has a certain value as mental food for other students if you like to turn teacher, but it is scholastically dried up and sterilised. You have no living faith in living physio - so far as the really direct healing of the sick is concerned all 'your medicine is dead, as dead as a door nail.
