Description

Excerpt from Fasti Ecclesiae Hibernicae, the Succession of the Prelates and Members of the Cathedral Bodies of Ireland: Supplement, Containing a Continuation of Appointments Up to the Disestablishment of the Church of Ireland on December 31, 1870 When first I perceived, with some surprise, that no collected notices of Cathedral appointments in the Church of Ireland existed, with the exception of the very important and valuable work of Sir James Ware, which is confined entirely to the Prelates, I resolved to make an attempt to remedy the deficiency as opportunities might arise; and I thought that such a work, if carefully and accurately compiled, was due and might be acceptable to the Irish Church, which had most kindly received, and liberally en dowed me. For that purpose I made it my business to travel to every Diocesan Registry throughout Ireland, and by leave of the several Bishops was enabled to examine all the books of Titles, &c., remaining in those offices, and extract from them such particulars as might suit my purpose.
