"Loving it!"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

I only bought this game a few days ago and already it's consuming every second of my spare time, I liked the elder scrolls series but this has something that oblivion did not – Heart pumping action! Imagine walking through the wastes feeling quite confident your the only one around then you hear the woosh of sniper fire wizzing past your head – you can't tell where it's coming from so you run, the next sound you hear is beep-beep-beep-beep, you've activated a landmine! Now your thinking F#%K F#%K F#%K! Still running with your heart pumping ( you know the feeling ). And before you know it you've run so far so fast everything is back to being eerie quiet and your sure no one else is around… maybe your right… maybe your not. The point I'm trying to make is that It's very rare to find a RPG that is so full of things you can do, backed up by an awesome story line and still has enough action sprinkled in to keep you on your toes while your trying to accomplish a seemingly simple quest. Don't miss it, It's so addictive I'm afraid it will cost me my job. Oh, and the graphics are great yarda yarda and so on.

"The most involving game ever!!"
5 stars"

Fallout 3 has consumed a good four months of my life, this game is so addictive its damn near impossible to put down! The Oblivian engine makes the world seem very realistic (if you can imagine post apocolyptic america) Only a few little things let the game down, those being if you follow just the main story line and clock the game you cannot use the character you have worked on, so make sure you take your time and play all those side quests!! You can also get some very cool bonus items and perks from these side quests, but i wont spoil you with the details :) A great game overall, an absolute must for your gaming collection!!

"Not quite perfect, but..."
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

This really is a good game and well worth playing. It's not perfect, it has its good points and not so good points, but what game doesn't?

For the first few hours I was simply gob-smacked. I wandered around just drinking in the scenery of the wonderfully derelict wasteland, killing the odd raider and molerat and doing a bit of scavenging, before exploring some of the settlements and doing some quests. After a while though (a long while) the novelty wore off and it started to lose its lustre a bit. Everyone seems to have their own idea of what's wrong with it, or how it could be better. It just seems to be missing a certain something to keep you interested when you finally get bored with wandering, exploring/scavenging and fighting. Although I like it a lot, I personally didn't find it as engrossing as the other Fallout games or the Elder Scrolls games (the two series to which comparison is unavoidable). That being said I've been playing it next to non stop since it came out.

If you're a Fallout aficionado you may find it slightly watered down to give it a wider appeal to casual gamers. And the adult content that helped make Fallout 2 such a classic is noticeably missing. If you're an Oblivion aficionado you may find there are relatively few side quests and the settlements don't seem as well fleshed out and interesting. And there are sadly no joinable factions with mini campaigns to play through, although it's just as lavishly detailed.

Also, the main quest is quite short. Although I enjoyed the ending and I didn't mind that you can't continue playing when the story ends, it would be nice if they came up with an original story instead of ripping it right from Fallout 2.

But there's still a lot to love about this game. I recommend going into it without expectations and judging it on its own merits. I think it's a great role playing experience (though you level a touch too fast for my liking), and shooter fans will probably like it too.

you get your usuall shoting game right… well fallout 3 is 10 steps ahead of any other shoting game on the market! although it may be a bit confusing, watching a bullet penetrate a super mutants brain of watching a NUKE GO OF IS JUST AWSOME!!! the game litrally explodes with guts and action!

"Epic, Open and full of hours"
5 stars"

Out of all the third gen games there have been very few games that can offer the depth, length and re-playability that fallout 3 can. The things that drew me to fallout were its huge and very unique world, its karma system which can lead the story into many different endings, Its wide range of characters with their own unique story's and its deep and flexible combat system.

If you are looking for a game that will provide plenty of hours, lots of ways to play, tons of re-playability, heaps of weapons, lots of exploring and a change from simple FPS liner gameplay this is the game for you.

"Another Elder Scrolls?"
3 stars"

Fallout 2 was probably one of my favorite games for its time.. so when I heard Fallout 3 was coming up I got hyped up and excited.

But to be perfectly honest… it just feels like another Elder Scrolls to me. While that's not so bad, as I do like those games, it definitely let me down on the Fallout side of the game.

I'll still play it and enjoy it, but on a different scale to its predecessor.

"Ultimately disappointing."
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

It's a great game…awesome in many respects, but ultimately disappointing. There aren't nearly enough quests. It's supposed to be a role playing game, quests should have been a priority. But it's almost as if the designers had some kind of aversion to doing them. Once you've done the main quest (which is quite pathetically short), and the major quests in the settlements, there's just a couple of others here and there, if you can find them, and that's it. After that there really isn't that much to do except wander around, kill raiders and clear out dungeons. It's a shame because there is plenty of opportunity for them. At times, after searching for hours, I said to myself “Ah, here we are, they'll be a quest here, finally!” But no. A perfect opportunity for one, but no quest. Why not? It's really as if they were actually trying to keep them to a minimum, for reasons that are beyond me.

A lot of people will tell you there's tons of content in the game, you just have to find it. Well that might be true but that doesn't mean there's a lot of quests. That's what I want… proper quests. The content is there, sure. It's just a shame they didn't use it.

It's also sadly lacking in settlements. There are three (that's three) largish towns in the game, and three other little places and that's it. Remember Oblivion (Beth's last game)? There were six cities, AND the Imperial City.

Because of this I had to knock my initial rating of and easy ten out of ten, down to eight. It's still one of the best games I've played in ages though and excellent value for money despite it's flaws. It's given me many, many hours of enjoyment and I would gladly carry on playing if there was more to do.

It just could have been so much better.

"The best PS3 title to date."
5 stars"

Easily one of the PS3 greats. Eats MGS4 for sheer enjoyment and playability. No matter what others have said about content this game is massive.

The main quest can be tracked down and done quickly but there is so much in this game it can easily be done later.

Amazing customization of character and weapons. You can literally develop your character in any number of ways and tailor your weapons and skills to suit.

Become a sniper, ninja thief type and sneak about leaving live hand grenades in people pockets or develop a big gun, grunty powerful flame throwing nuke launching maniac!

Good, bad or neutral, become a bounty hunter (and bring in the fingers of bad guys) or take contracts to kill. Have locations where you build your own weapons and chems .....basically do whatever you want!

Make no mistake this is a great RPG.Its not as big as Oblivion, and you cant go to lvl 40 and beyond… but its quality and not quantity and this is not Oblivion after all its a different game entirely!!

True RPG style combat with percentage chances of hits and critical strikes (which is what RPG's should be about about and not hack and slash all the time).

A combat system that lets you interact with your characters weapons, skills and traits.

Great atmosphere and a huge range of characters and locations, weapons, skills, perks.

"Best RPG/ SHOOTER ever?!"
5 stars"

If your a 1st/3rd person Shooter fan or a Action RPG fan, then this is the game for you!

If you have tried the Morrowwind series of games – the last being Oblivion, then you know what to expect with this game. the story if followed alone, does not fullfil the game true openended game play (because it will end) but if you trully want to live in a world in the aftermath of a nuclear war, theres enough here to spend hour apon hour exploring, trading and getting into all sorts of trouble (100hrs+ and only half way thru main quest)

Yes like all new games there are some small issues, but not enough to take away for the best RPG of 2008! and as with Oblivion i would be expecting expansions to this title – Its a mush buy!!!!!

"Good, but not great."
2 stars"

If you liked TES: Oblivion you'll probably like Fallout 3 because they're very similar: enemies level as your character does and character inception and development is similar. The biggest problem with Fallout 3 is that there is a level 20 cap. Not very high is it? And it doesn't take long to reach it either, so all those Side Quests are only for the dedicated player. But the main reason I disagree with Fallout 3's level cap is that because what makes an RPG an RPG is character development, but when you remove that element the game ceases to be an RPG and becomes a FPS / Action Adventure. If you like western-made RPGs, and let's face it Bethesda has a monopoly on them at the moment, you'll probably like Fallout 3. If, however, you prefer fantasy RPGs save your money.

"Best Played At Midnight!"
5 stars"

Walking around the wasteland gets scary sometimes especially If you go into a dark vault and see a few nuclear mutated/modified humans or animals pop around the corner. This game is full of surprises though the main quest line is not long Its still worth the money. You don't even have to finish the game maybe explore a bit.

"Great Potential"
4 stars"

If you liked Oblivion, then you will probably like this one. It feels like they just chucked a post-apocalyptic skin over oblivion and spat this game out. In saying that, its not a bad thing. Oblivion is probably still my favourite RPG. Main story took me about 10 hours or so to finish but there is definitely tonnes more out there to do (side quests/exploring). Absolutely amazing character development makes it a real treat to level up. Great game but i think Oblivion is still better.

"There are just no words good enough to describe..."
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

I was never an xbox player, playstation was always my thing. But this one game seems to have changed that forever. I hadn't even played a console game in over 5 years. But Fallout 3.. Well, its just.. Amazing.

The controls are easy enough to get used to, but there are extreme levels of difficulty if you happen to be less of a noob than myself.
You can play this game so many times over and never get bored, there are just so many ways to play. And the achievements are not easy, but unlike every other game I have come across since, all actually achievable. If you like playing solo, thats fine. If you like a companion or two to help you along, thats fine. If you get scared of silly things like feral ghouls like me, well, there's ways around almost every piece you don't want to play, like making them think you're one of them. It has a few glitches I admit, but I was so 500% in love with the game it never bothered me. So my final rating is 5/5, my favourite game in the entire world from a noob to RPG gaming (and also from many friends that have much more exp. And introduced me to the game). You can make it whatever you want it to be.

Occassionally wacked out action filled adventure with several hints of comedy and even a little drama. Its amazing. Just saying. I even made my mum try it…

"Totally stunning "

A stunning game that has overtaken all my free hours. Huge and expansive, excellent graphics and the Quests along with add-ons make this number one.

Nothing negative.

"WOW"

One of the best games I've played. Long and enjoyable story. With lots of different quest to do and a wide variety of weapons and apparel to choose from. Levelling is fun but is pretty much like other level increasing games. Overall WOW!!

"FANTASTIC!!!! A must buy!"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

This game is incredible! The graphics is absolutely amazing and the landscapes are huge. The story, gameplay, graphics, rpg elements is all done very well. there are occasional slow downs in the framerates at times but nothing to major, it gets fixed with the latest updates for the game from xbox live. This game is a must buy for any rpg fan or even if you're not into rpg's this game has free roaming and first person shooting and exploration which is probably the most fun parts of the games and there's a bit of everything in the story to suit everyone. Multiple stories for all the different characters in the game that are very well written and thought out. The length of the game really depends on you and how well you want to explore and get to know the world of fallout but the main quest should only take around 20 hours to finish but I highly doubt that anyone who buy's the game and plays it wil only stick to the main quest. Overall almost every aspect of the game is of high standard and is highly recommended.

"Its not like the previous fallouts..."

But its still pretty damn awesome.

Yes the constant brown, gloom and reptitive voice acting can becoming annoying, and the rad scorpions are jerks, but the game is still surprisingly addictive.

It took me around 30 hours to complete the main quest and a good portion of the side ones, and this was before Bethesda released any of the DLC for it which has been of a mixed quality, but has added to the life of the game quite a bit.

There are niggling issues that ruin it as a Fallout game (when you compare it to the previous titles) but as a whole I recommend it. Plus nuking Megaton is quite impressive.

"Gore soaked awesome in a game case...yay!"
5 stars"

Did you ever play Abe's Oddesy? It was a really good game. It has nothing to do with Fallout 3 though. Fallout 3, or Elder Scrolls V: Fallout 3, is a RPG/FPS that takes place in the desolated ruins of Washington D.C. and its surrounding area. It also takes place over two hundred years in the future after World War III. You begin by being kicked out of your mother's womb, blood covering the screen (I wish I was kidding). As with other similar Bethesda games, you start off by creating your character, choosing what they look like. Unlike a few games where you can make your character look like anyone, the character generator in Fallout 3 isn't much in variety, with your character looking almost the same no matter what you do. Kind of like Mass Effect, where no matter how you change your character, you will always looked like a shaved, grizzled bear. Or a shaved grizzled female bear.

The story is that you are a member of Vault 101, an underground vault meant to keep humanity alive during the nuclear war. It worked, and people manage to survive for two hundred years or more. You spend about half an hour living the life of a Vault dweller, helping out friends, talking with your father and seeing a robot destroy your birthday cake. Then one day, your father decides to leave the Vault, so like an obedient child, you disobey what everyone else says and leave the Vault, looking for him. Outside is the Wasteland, the remains of human civilization where mutants rule the cities, and gangs run the barren areas…and cities with bombs in the middle dwell. Welcome to The Wasteland.

Fallout 3, unlike its predecessor Oblivion, has guns. And with guns comes the awesome ability to shoot things. And with today's thirst for more blood and violence, comes a damage system in which you can blow off limbs, or explode a head and watch eyeballs, chunks of brain and skull matter fall everywhere. And with this level of violence come the V.A.T.S. system, a cinematic chance like battle system, where you have a percentage chance of hitting an opponent depending on distance, type of weapon and so forth. And when you are close to a wall on one side, and the camera is looking at your character, but has to get closer because of the wall, the muzzle flash from the gun in a dark place looks amazing. The weapons are quite varied, and over time of use, they even degrade. The quality of your weapons is important to look at. A lower quality one will do less damage, be less accurate and eventually degrade faster with each shot. You can repair weapons with either the same weapon, similar ones or just spare junk pieces to make a new, original weapon. The Rock-It Launcher will fire anything you put in it, and will usually take out a target at a decent distance too.

Speaking of distance, the draw distance in the game is immense. While most games let you see anything for up to a hundred meters or so, Fallout 3 lets you see anything as long as nothing is in the way. Sure, you can't V.A.T.S. someone in Washington from the other side of the map, but you can still see the three or four taller buildings from way off. Some of the views are breath-taking, and really add to the incredible depth of the game. You could complete the game in a matter of hours if you complete just the main missions, go to only a few locations and be left very unsatisfied. You can also rack over a hundred hours doing some side quests and exploring the many other locations. Satellite Arrays where you can set off bombs miles off the game map, but still see the sky light up (Which looks beautiful during night), Vaults where experiments were done and turned people dead, crazy or into clones, and even a talking tree of insanity. Not joking here. Insanity.

For all your RPG and Oblivion fans, the game feels like Oblivion but with a different environment and guns. You still have the basic Strength, Charisma, Intelligence; all of which affect your conversations with certain characters. As well as the ability to add points to skills like lock picking, stealth, weapons, melee combat, health and so forth. The Perks are pretty cool too. Some give you increased defense against radiation, carry more items, show you all locations; one even gives you five percent more damage, and explodes every limb in V.A.T.S. mode.

Rating: 5/5 Fallout Boy Bobbleheads Overall, this is a great game with plenty of depth and enough stuff to keep you immersed for a very long time. The only bad thing I can think of the game is whenever you talk to people, they will look at you square on, afraid you're gonna slip a live grenade in their back pocket…I only did that nine times, don't judge me.

Extremely addictive. This game throws you straight into action and begins consuming every bit of your spare time. Best RPG games of them all. Limitless freedom is absolutely incredible. Fight off raiders, discover towns collect weapons such as the sniper rifle, assault rifle, pistols, hand held nuclear weapons (fatboy).

An absolute MUST BUY!!!!!

"150 hours and still playing"

Simply, this game is fantastic First off, you are literally born into the world of Fallout 3. From there you crawl around and then are standing all in the space of 15 minutes and this is just the beginning. Then you are at your 10th birthday party, when you receive your pip-boy 3000 and get your FIRST gun. Next thing you know you are 16, taking your G.O.A.T that has the most absurd and funny anwsers while trying to get the local gang(the tunnel snakes) to stop annoying the girl you have a crush on.

Then all of a sudden you're 19 and your Dad has left the vault. OH NO, you go after him where soon you find yourself at the end of a tunnel and just beyond the door in front of you is a world of destroyed magnificence.

There are very few games that allow you to go anywhere you want, do anything you want and shoot anything you want. Fallout 3 is one of these games. Not only is this game an RPG it is also a shooter. Allowing you to bast off any of the enemies limbs from radroaches and mutant molerats to Super mutant masters and Deathclaws. Now almost everything about this game is great so I won't go into detail about those but I will mention the cons of Fallout 3… wait, there are none, so buy Fallout 3, you will not regret it. There are also 3 DLC packs so if you want some new weapons, enemies, perks, armor, areas, achievements and story-lines, buy them but get Broken Steel first as it increases the level cap from 20 to 30.

Well, I think I have said enough so what are you waiting for…

"Never Ending Story"
4 stars"

Wow, this game is like oblivion where you have so many missions that are not the main one. The graphics are really good and the story line is interesting.

Once again this game is about saving the world but this time the world has already been destroyed so dont expect brightly coloured scenes.

"A post-apocalyptic extravaganza!!"

Fallout 3 is one of the most realistic games of its genre, with a dramatic storyline to draw you in. This game really does a great job of meshing 50s culture and social views of the aftermath of nuclear war. Its a harsh and gritty lifestyle out in the wasteland, and its ime to find your place in.
