Perseus Mandate, the second expansion for F.E.A.R, sees you joining a second F.E.A.R team to investigate the Perseus Facility, where the psychic commander, Paxton Fettel and his clone soldiers were allegedly trained.
The gameplay remains pretty much the same – there's a lot of running around, a lot of shooting, a lot of screaming and loads of blood. However, you have some new opposition this time round – the Nightcrawlers. Highly trained mercenaries equipped with advanced weaponry, the Nightcrawlers proceed to make your life hell in short order. They're very smart, quite tough and their commanders are possibly genetically engineered, possessing the same preternatural speed and agility as you. You also have access to two new weapons; a lightning gun, and the Nightcrawlers own advanced assault rifle complete with scope – handy for capping some hapless gimp in the eye when he unwisely risks a peek over the table.
If you're a fan of the franchise, you'll enjoy Perseus Mandate. If you're sick to death of F.E.A.R, then you'll probably want to give it a miss. Incidentally, if “some people” hated the original F.E.A.R, which presumably “some people” did, given that they've spent a lot of time here describing it as “trash” and “junk”, why would “those people” go to the trouble of playing through the expansion packs? Are they masochists or just starved for attention?
