Description

This textbook provides an examination of the opening centuries of the second millennium in Europe. It aims to bring this period of dramatic social, political, economic, cultural, religious and military change alive to the general reader. William Chester Jordan presents the early medieval period as a lost world, far removed from our current age, which had risen from the rubble of the Roman Empire, but from which we are cut off by the great plagues and famines that ended it.

Author Biography:

William Chester Jordan is Professor of History at Princeton University and the author of several books, including Women and Credit in Pre-Industrial and Developing Societies, (1993) The Great Famine (1996) and From England to France- Felony and Exile in the High Middle Ages (2015).
