"Great fun."
5 stars"

Granted, this game is slighty more difficult to play with a keyboard and mouse, (fighting moves anyway) yet, give yourself the time to play and have a little more patience and you can see the game for what it really is…

Forget FPS – this game is a combination fighting/gunplay ACTION game. Yes, it is meant to give you the opportunity to disarm a foe a kick him across the room. But, that is not the greatest thing about it – it's that you can do it several different ways. The controls are not difficult at all, requiring little skill to master, but a lot of time to test out all the different combinations. I recommend buying the walkthrough guide.

This game also features a whole bunch of full-motion video, filling in the gaps in Reloaded and Revolutions; filmed by the actual film-makers. That is cool. What other games have that?

While some levels may be large or long, they are definitely not repetitive at all. It is actually quite refreshing to see little more depth in a game these days.

I feel the only downfall this game is the driving aspect of it. Long, generic car noises while you drive around being shot at or shooting. Fairly non-consequential events happen during this phase of the game. Same goes for piloting the Hovercraft…

If you want some slow motion Kung Fu and bullet time blasting this IS the game for you. A let-down for some; for others, a hidden gem that polishes up nicely over time.

"An exercise in pain."
1 stars"

The game had to be ambitious at best to fufill all the requirements that gamers wanted in terms of being able to live out the best parts of the movie. The game has all the elements like bullet-time, running up walls, kung-fu, lots of guns. Unfortunately bringing all these elements together is quite hard.

For a start the fighting is terrible: the moves are akin to the movie but the character's punches and kicks seem to often float out in space not ever really hitting anything and even when they do connect it's not satisfying. The guns are pretty cool and what you can do with them is quite interesting, but let's face it – we all play The Matrix because we want to dodge bullets and use awesome gravity defying kung-fu; not shoot guys while hiding behind walls (as seen in Max Payne).

Even as going as far as giving you a sniper rifle further compounds the problem as you're left wondering whether this is a first person-shooter or the Matrix game you spent your hard earned cash on.

Another thing, the levels are incredibly boring and unnecessarily big. The airport level stands out with apparently nothing but respawning security guards hell-bent on shooting you with no passengers around or even a trolley boy in site. The sewers were also bland and long to get through. It was almost like playing one of those old 2D games where the background scrolls along but never changes.

So to sum it up, this could be the single worst game in the world but is made worse by the fact it could have been and should have been awesome. A complete waste of movie license, the developers should look to EA's LOTR to see how a movie license should be used.
