Whether you are a dedicated collector or a new enthusiast, this encyclopaedia is intended to enhance your knowledge of and pleasure in antiques. More than 1100 photographs of individual antiques, arranged in a series of colour plates, are backed by expert information on a range of classic pieces from around the world. Technical terms are explained and significant changes are placed in their historical and technological context. In addition, there are tips on interpreting makers' marks and authenticating period antiques. Short biographical and historical paragraphs supply help in detailing the development of artistic movements and the work of individual master craftsmen.
