Elgato Game Capture HD reviews

Just got mine today and I've already uploaded some great Black Ops 2 moments to Facebook and YouTube. The video quality is amazing and it records peoples voices when they rage at you :) It's so easy to set up and use as well. Highly recommended!!

one of the first recorders to use hdmi on both input and out put making less mess for cords, also it doesn't need a power supply, just usb, and thanks to the latest update you can record old game consoles like the ps2 and xbox. overall this is the best on the market 10/10

I believe this is the best Game Capture Device on the market, Records and Renders at 60 frames/sec. Very good price from Mighty Ape, Delivery and after Sales service EXCELLENT.

Up until now I've been using FRAPS for my gaming PC recordings. Since I received the Elgato Game Capture HD I've literally deleted FRAPS from my PC. No more low FPS or inferior quality recordings. This thing captures 1080p full HD with no noticeable system lag. Highly recommend for any serious gamers.

Perfect in every way! Easy interface and basic plug and play options. Im Using this with xsplit, it makes this the perfect tool for live streaming

This is a fantastic capture card, and is so simple to setup. The software (downloaded from Elgato's webpage) is so easy to use. And has an awesome timeshift feature. Superb item here.

The Elgato Game Capture HD is great for people wishing to record for older consoles (N64, PS2, PS3 etc.) due to the A/V port which is absent from the newer HD60 version. It can also be used for newer consoles but only records up to 30fps therefore the HD60 is a better choice there. Still it is easy to use, the program is quite robust and it does a very good quality job. Highly recommended.

I've been using the Elgato Game capture HD for making YouTube videos and the quality is alot better than the PS4 builtin capture. Really good for recording PS3 and PC gameplay too. 5/5 from me.

Good Crystal Clear capture

This was exactly what I needed , works perfectly and amazingly!

If you want a capture card, this is the one by far. Its feature where you can go back to up to an hour ago and record what happened is really useful and the elgato program is perfect

Great device plus software. Would highly recomend if you are looking to capture gaming footage.

Highly recommend this. My only problem is the HDCP block with PS3. But that can easily be bypassed with a component wire.

So awesome. Easy software, basic to use. Ability to record after the fact makes it just so much worth it!

Just got mine today and have already uploaded and recorded a few videos, the quality is amazing and it is sooooo simple to use. The only thing I would say bad about it is that the quality of my T.V. Display dropped slightly when it was plugged in, Kind of not HDMI but not AV either. Other than that a great product and well worth the money.

So I got the Elgato and set it up all ready to go, That was fine. But then when I downloaded the software from the ACTUAL website that I was lead to from the original instructions that came with the device, That is where things have really gone bad. When I try to open the software it says:Error the software had to close and will not open. SO at first I thought it may be my computer. I went on and tried to download the software on another computer and when the install wizard came up ANOTHER error came up! So I cannot even use the device. Alot of money yet nothing in return. I would like this issue to be resolved IMMEDIATELY! Once again, Not happy AT ALL.

Honestly I tried the roxio game capture hd and it is nothing compared to the elgato.

The elgato is simple and easy to use but also gives great quality video. It saves in a format that is easy to import (mp4). This is a great time saver because no conversion is needed.

The elgato allows:

• ps2 game capture
• ps3 game capture
• ps4 game capture when Sony removes hdcp with it's latest patch
• you can record voice overs while playing and it saves as one mp4 file at the end.
• you can adjust the brightness and video options to suit your look.

It has everything you need to start a good quality YouTube channel.

I found the roxio game capture device would lag and not record properly at times. The trouble is that you don't notice until you go to edit and by that time it is too late.

I have never had any problems with the elgato game cap hd.

I give the elgato a 9/10 for usability and features.

Does everything you want it to. Functions like the hd60 and has compatibility with all consoles on hdmi, component or iPod.

Forget about those free or paid for software I tried with Win10. Invest in one of these & you won't regret it. There's no limit to what it can't record that I have found so far be it console or computer, laptop & Full 1080p HD. Keeps both my boys Tube Channels going. I don't recommend much as a rule but this is an exception. GET ONE!

A very reliable, Cheap product.

Quality: The quality of your recorded videos can be changed, Bit rate, Frame rate and resolution. At Max quality settings (1080p 30fps and Best bitrate) video sizes are maxed to 13.5gb per hour. This is amazing as the quality is comparable to Fraps, yet the file size is only a fraction of a video recorded using Fraps.

Lag: There is no lag what so ever! Even if you are recording your PC using the Elgato Card, as long as your PC meets the requirements, there is no lag!

Compatibility: Compatibility between devices is excellent. With it being able to connect to pretty much any device via HDMI, it can record from many different sources. This allows it to be very handy for a YouTuber or a promotional Video creator!

Overall: A very well made device. Works extremely well and has not let me down so far!

The Elagato Game Capture HD is. Good product that provides excellent game capture performance. If you plan on streaming though, it is not the best option on the market due to the delay between gameplay and stream. Trying to match the delay with webcams and microphones is a bit of a chore but possible depending on what software you use. Even once you have synched your sources though, the extra delay is noticeable to viewers due to your reactions to the chat being delayed by a big margin.

If you are wanting to capture and stream retro consoles(basically any SD console) this is what you should pick up as most other capture devices wont handle old sources, this one works a charm though. Just keep in mind that you will have to have a tv/monitor that can handle it too, while this will give your old console HDMI out it wont do so at a hertz range that most modern monitors can accept which is a massive shame. You will get picture via the software on your computer but the aforementioned lag between device and software means you cant play windowed via your pc.

In summary, if you are streaming and don't want to use retro consoles, get the more expensive versions instead. Otherwise this is a really good capture device.

Want to get into recording game play but don't to deal with the bitrates jargon and twitch stream key complexity, this is the capture device for you, simple and easy to set up and has great software to match, if you want a solution to stream game play or record get this!

Awesome product. Elgato has done well with making a game capture device. My first one unfortunately broke as the USB pin broke inside somehow but my new one has shown no problems. Recommend getting it. Easy to use!

If you have the newest model of PS3 and/or a tv that doesn't go down to 480p then steer clear! I cannot get this to work no matter what I try… Even after contacting Elgato support. I would demand a refund but am planning to try to use it on my Wii U but do not know if my tv will still be an issue. I can't buy a new tv just to use this capture card, so buyers beware.

Easy to use and simple to navigate around, one downer is that you cant record voices from Skype, but there are ways around that.

This is an amazing recorder and the best one around. It records games in small files but with big line of Quality. BEST ONE OUT-THRER 100% AWESOME!!!

Only got this yesterday, already recorded loads of footage, love my elgato.

Great quality and so easy to use! The software was fantastic, everything was great. However, it is an expensive luxury for myself so had to sell.

I use this with my Xbox One and it was definitely worth the money spent, it was also everything I expected.

Now i'll admit that I did buy the HD PVR 2 gaming edition first and the quality is the same as this but HD PVR 2 does win in the contrast section. But if you compare to the size and wires to the HD PVR 2. The Elgato takes this by far. It was very simple to setup and easy to get started with. Comparing the program used to edit for HD PVR 2 and the Elgato Editing program. Elgato takes it is well. Overall they're both great but I do prefer this one. If you're having a hard time choosing I would suggest taking this one as your first capture card. Simple wires. Easy program. EASY TO USE. That's all you need.

Best game capture device on the market.

Works really well. I Just started a youtube gaming channel and the elgato has not let me down. Real easy to setup and use. I plan on buying another. Great value for money.

An easy to set up lag free capture card that records beautifully.

I been looking at one of these for a few months and i had some money so i got one, It came with all the cords i needed and was very simple to setup, that took least than 3min. Works on xbox one, pc, ps3 and soon to work on ps4 after a update from sony. To steam to twitch i use obs because it's a bit better than that steam to twitch from the software, also upload to youtube didn't work for me. I will post a link to a video of tomb raider i recorded below in the comments.

Very great quality capture card and easy to use. Flashback feature is great so you don't have to be recording all the time. Only flaw is that you don't get game sound if the software is not running, however this isn't much of a problem if your computer is usually on.
