Description

Excerpt from Eccentricities of Literature and Life, or the the Recreative Magazine, 1822 Aornons are sometimes extremely careless in expressing thermelves others pique themselves on a quaintness or an od dity, more honoured in the breach than the observance. How ever, we do not pretend to carp or cavil in the followi arti cle; our oflice being merely to exhibit the extremely od way in which some think and write, (and great ones, too, among them, ) but who, perhaps, have been caught napping. Let us view some of these eccentricities, not with the green magnify ing glasses of criticism, but with those of a student, who goes to the theatre by way of relaxation, determined to be leased. T he'display might have been considerably increased rom our common-place book for the present, however, these will serve to mark a great variety in modes of expression. Roger Ascnan, describing Lady Jane Grey, expresses him self thus At the time (says he) that the rest of the com any were gone out a hunti and to their other amusements, found - O Jupiter and allt gods l - this divine ou lady reading the Phaedo of the divine Plato, in Greek, zc. Ngurely there was no occasion to disturb Jupiter and the conclave of Olympus, by thus calling upon them so abruptly.
