This isn't a review of the actual book, but on this physical edition of it. Was very disappointed to see a Penguin Modern Classic and how the quality has dropped dramatically over the past years. I have some of the old Penguin Modern Classics with the silver back and they are great, but these new ones are quite poor. The font size is crazy small, and the actual type is not solid and has broken bits in the letters. Also, the paper quality is poor and basically newsprint paper, and for these reasons, and that it will be quite difficult to read, I won't be purchasing any of the Penguin Modern Classics books anymore.

Description

A stunning new series look for one of the greatest writers of the 20th century in Penguin Modern Classics Set in the rich farmland of the Salinas Valley, California, this powerful, often brutal novel, follows the interwined destinies of two families - the Trasks and the Hamiltons - whose generations hopelessly re-enact the fall of Adam and Eve and the poisonous rivalry of Cain and Abel. Here Steinbeck created some of his most memorable characters and explored his most enduring themes- the mystery of indentity; the inexplicability of love, and the murderous consequences of love's absence.

Author Biography:

Nobel Prize-winning author John Steinbeck is remembered as one of the greatest and best-loved American writers of the twentieth century. His complete works will be published in Penguin Modern Classics.
