Description

If somebody struggles with basic reading and spelling, are they dumb or dyslexic? Such a question is rarely pondered by non-dyslexics, but it is very pertinent to dyslexics themselves. How do I know this? Because I am myself dyslexic, and I have experienced all the trials and tribulations which come with this condition. This book is a very personal and realistic exploration of what it is like to be dyslexic. Not only do I pass on my own understanding of dyslexia, but I also hope to tackle the self-doubt which is so prominent with dyslexics. Although this book is aimed at dyslexics, it also explores subjects which anyone could relate to, amongst other things our human pursuit of happiness.

Author Biography

Thomas James Trueman spent his early life in the small town of Shaftesbury in rural Dorset. From there he moved to the city of Bristol to attend university, and now resides there with his partner. However, he still has deep connections to his origins and makes regular trips to visit his mother. Throughout his academic career Thomas - better known as Tommy - has had to contend with dyslexia. This has led to him becoming passionate about how those with dyslexia are perceived, not only by others but also by themselves. This subsequently inspired him to write his first book: Dumb or Dyslexic? Tommy has refused to let dyslexia hold him back and has dedicated himself both to vocational and academic pursuits. He holds a bachelor's degree in Philosophy and Politics and a City & Guilds qualification in furniture making, thus enabling him to discuss metaphysics at the same time as cutting a dovetail joint by hand. Since completing his degree Tommy has been enthusiastically exploring new ventures to broaden his horizons, and is aiming to start up his own carpentry business in the near future.
