"Beat game I've ever played!"
5 stars"

Good story, fantastic art work, brilliant gameplay, even after you've finished the story, there's still plenty more to do!

"Simply a must-have for any fan."
5 stars"

After I'd read a heap of reviews on websites giving it critical praise I decided to take the chance with Disgaea. It was definately worth it.

One of the most unique stories, with weird and hilarious characters (this is the only game I've played which has made me laugh outright, repeatedly), makes this a joy to play through–and doesn't have you hitting that X button on your controller to skip through cutscenes.

The tactical element of the gameplay is also great. It takes all we've come to expect from tight turn-based games, but then adds new elements giving tactics extra strategy. Additions such as Geo-spheres, throwing people, adjacent combos, adds more tactical options for you to employ, not to mention speeding up battles so that you're never feeling any sort of grind doing so. There are a few niggles such as not being able to choose which direction to face when you end a turn, but such minor things are easily forgotten with the rest being so flawless.

It must also be mentioned about the Dark Assembly where you can pass laws which effect gameplay/characters, and the Item World where you can go inside any item/weapon to level it up by defeating enemies in randomized dungeons. Both of these features give the player countless added hours to gameplay–if they choose to do so.

With beautiful artwork, scaleable gameplay, hours upon hours of content, and a brilliant battle system, this is an easy buy for any fan of tactical RPG's. Especially given the small amount of titles that make their way to New Zealand!

*Note: the overseas version of the game came with Japanese AND English audio dialogue. So if the NZ version is the same, you hardcore subtitle fans will be in for a real treat as the vocal work is top notch.
