Description

College and university campuses are no longer viewed as safe havens. Developing Your Proactive Plan: Campus Safety and Self Defense teaches students how to develop a proactive safety plan to increase their chances of survival in the event of a violent attack or incident. The book emphasizes the importance of safety precaution practices and self-defense preparedness. The book guides students through the development of a highly personalized proactive safety plan. Features of the plan include prevention, preparedness, self-defense, physical fitness, and healthy eating practices to encourage overall wellness and routine vigilance. Case studies, a safety survey, and a safety plan guide help readers learn about potential risks, assess their preparedness, and develop a customized security strategy. Developing Your Proactive Plan provides students with the tools they need to become active participants in their personal safety and self-defense. The text is well suited for courses in criminal justice, social work, family and consumer sciences, sociology, and psychology. The book is also a useful resource for any individual interested in learning self-protection techniques to feel safer and more secure on campus. Frankie Rabon, who holds a Ph.D. in vocational and technical education with a specialization in family and consumer sciences from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, is a family life educator and an associate professor at Grambling State University in Louisiana. Dr. Rabon has over twenty years of experience working in family and consumer sciences and is recognized for her writings and presentations on topics related to family and consumer sciences. Howard Gene Caviness has over 30 years of extensive and specialized law enforcement training, including positions with the LaSalle Parish Sheriff's Department, Ouachita Parish SWAT team, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and U.S. Marshall's Service, to name a few.
