Description

In 1845, architect Eugene-Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc undertook one of the greatest projects in the history of restoration: the 23-year refurbishment of the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris. This faithful reproduction of the restored murals, notable for their originality of design and for the soft and subtle harmony of their coloration, presents 60 full-page plates.

Author Biography

Architect and theorist Eugene-Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc (1814-79) was a prominent leader in the French Gothic Revival and active in the restoration of medieval buildings.Architect Maurice Ouradou (1822-84), student and son-in-law to Viollet-le-Duc, was also active in the restoration of French churches.
