Defiance
During World War II four Jewish brothers (Daniel Craig Liev Schreiber Jamie Bell George MacKay) escape their Nazi-occupied homeland of Eastern Poland/West Belarus and join the Soviet partisans to combat the Nazis. The brothers eventually rescue roughly 1200 Jews. The film tracks their struggle to evade invading German forces while still maintaining their mission to save Jewish lives.
Critic Reviews:
- " As the leader with a checkered past, Craig shows off both his action hero chops, his sensitive side and a nifty little Belorussian accent that occasionally wavers. " – Richard Propes
- " I recommend the movie as a redemptive and uplifting tale of heroism… if only to call attention to the real heroism of the historic Bielski brothers. " – Ed Travis
- " The kind of big, old-fashioned prestige entertainment Hollywood seems to have forgotten how to do " – Matthew Lucas
