With a Tag Line like that, I wasn't actually sure what to expect from this first time auther David Gunn, but, let me tell you, if you like your sci-fi hard and fast, this is the book for you, there's not really a lot you can say about the plot-line that doesn't give certain aspects of the book away, so, I won't go into details on that, however, this is a gritty romp through the underbelly of Sci-fi, showing a darker side than perhaps a lot of people are used to, this is a war book written under a sci-fi cover, and, a very good book at that, this is apparently the first in the trilogy, I have just completed the second of the books (maximum offence) and am heartedly looking forward to the conclusion of the trilogy… my only hope is that it becomes a saga!

Gunn sets the pace incredibly well, never a dull moment in this novel and Sven is pure genious, open your hearts, for this is another Sci-Fi great, if you haven't read this yet, you should, if you have read this… ah hell, read it again, you know you want to. ;)

One who does is an ex-sergeant in the legion etranger. e knows when the first lash falls and he knows when the desert tribes attack, slaughtering his comrades before they can kill him. But what he doesn't know is that this marks the beginning of one hell of a journey- one that will take him from facing certain death in a forgotten fort in a far-away desert to a secret meeting with a certain General Indigo Glanville, commander in chief of the Death's Head, a special ops force so feared (and so effective) that the mere mention of its name or sight of its uniform are, as a rule, usually enough to make most enemies surrender. Except it seems there's an enemy out there who doesn't want to play by this particular rule. nd at this meeting, Glanville knows he's found just the man for this particularly dirty mission - introducing recently promoted Death's Head Second Lieutenant Sven Tveskoeg,
