Description

The Day After:
The starkly realistic drama of nuclear confrontation and its devastating effect on a group of average American citizens caused much controversy upon it’s initial U.S. TV in 1983. The story takes place in Lawrence, Kansas, the geographical near centre of the U.S. We are succinctly introduced to a cross-section of American life; a doctor (Jason Robards) , a graduate student (Steve Guttenberg) , a young bride-to-be (Lori Lethin), and an academic (John Lithgow) , before the Bomb destroys nearby Kansas City. The resulting destruction is entirely horrific, however a few manage to survive whilst struggling to come to terms with the inevitable collapse of society, not to mention the rising radiation levels. As a protest vehicle The Day After is a bleak look at the effects Nuclear war would have on humanity and is no less powerful, more than 20 years after it’s initial release.

Daybreak:
In a world gone mad, an epidemic threatens to destroy the nation – and two rebels find that love, like freedom, is a cause worth fighting for. BLUE (Moira Kelly), a disillusioned, impoverished young woman living in New York City, repelled by the hypocrisy of the vigilantes. Discovering a resistance movement led by the mysterious Torch (Academy Award Winner CUBA GOODING, JR.), she joins him on a perilous underground crusade to help those in need.
