Description

An innovative, interactive series, Cyberchase challenges and delights viewers with its eye-popping mathematical adventures. Featuring the voices of Christopher Lloyd and Gilbert Gottfried, this action-packed animated show follows Jackie, Matt and Inez as they travel to the virtual vistas of cyberspace to foil the evil Hacker's attempts to take over cyberspace. Cyberchase teaches pre-teen viewers that maths is interesting, maths is fun, and maths is handy when you need to save the day. EPISODES A BATTLE OF EQUALS Hacker pollutes cyberspace with dangerous cyberstatic by tampering with four Satellites designed to keep everything free from cyber-static cling. But is his plan only to trash cyberspace - or does he have something even more devious up his cloak? The kids learn the answer as they use balance scales and equations to restore the satellites and save Motherboard. The Big Idea: Like a scale in balance, both sides of an equation must have the same value, and you can use this property to find the value of an unknown number. Maths Topic: Equations HARRIET HIPPO & THE MEAN GREEN Hacker infects Motherboard with a new virus - one that causes her to make cyber-citizens do bad things. Digit and the kids go in search of an antidote: 2/5 of the Electro-Root, 2/8 of the Healing Stone, and 1/3 of a box of Hacker's wig gel - a strange antidote indeed! Will the young cyber-heroes be able to gather the ingredients and figure out how to properly mix these odd fractions before it is too late? The Big Idea: Fractions that look different can represent the same portion of a whole. Maths Topic: Equivalent Fractions TRUE COLOURS Hacker becomes a good guy! Can this possibly be true? A new, reformed Hacker runs for election against Motherboard, claiming to have done five good deeds, and promising to turn over a new leaf. Can the kids find a counter example that proves his claims to be false - or will Hacker be elected the new ruler of cyberspace? The Big Idea: When people use words like always, never, all or none to claim something is true, be suspicious! Such claims are often false, and you need only a single counter example to disprove them. Maths Topic: Counter Examples
