This series from Swedish television could have been a lot better than it was/is. Those who are fond of British whodunits along the Agatha Christie line will like it quite a lot as it is well made and the late 1940s setting nicely rendered. But the puzzles aren't enough finally and of the six episodes only those – two- with suspenseful endings really worked, and I don't mean just for me but for “yer typical viewer”. It seems, also, that smoking in the late 1940s was de rigeur.
Finally the non-menage a trois of the ongoing storyline failed to be exciting once it was obvious – by the third instalment – that the flirting between the female lead and Ola Rapace was not going to be consummated. All the same, enjoyable enough but not a patch on Wallander.
