Description

One of the growing areas of historical research in recent years has been the study of crime and the criminal. Between the mid-18th and early-20th centuries, the English criminal justice system was fundamentally transformed as a new disciplinary state emerged. Drawing on recent research, this book provides a comprehensive and up to date synthesis of these important changes. This study is intended for use in undergraduate courses on crime and society in Britain 1750-1914, and for students of history. It should also be of interest to undergraduates taking courses on Britain in the 19th century.

DAVID TAYLOR is a Principal Lecturer and Head of History at the University of Huddersfield.
