Author Biography

Helen Payne has been one of the leading pioneers in dance movement psychotherapy in the United Kingdom. In 1971 she began working in movement and play with adults and children with profound learning difficulties in a hospital setting while attending a specialist physical education course. She went on to work for nine years in special education and has been leading groups since then. Her further professional studies embrace training in dance, special education, counselling and analytical groupwork. She has held lecturing posts on BEd and postgraduate courses specialising in dance and rehabilitation, and is now a professor of psychotherapy at the University of Hertfordshire in addition to training dance movement psychotherapists, supervising, researching, writing and traveling abroad to present her work internationally.
