Description

This volume deals with the issue of control and self-control in psychotherapy, applied to any and all therapeutic approaches whether psychoanalytic, existential, cognitive-behavioural, or any other. It takes the position that all forms of therapy engage the client in assessing the amount of control he or she has over his/her life, assessing whether the control efforts are functional, and working toward having the patient learn more effective control in cognitive, behavioural and affective areas of life. It shows how the therapist can assess patient levels, styles and modes of control; it addresses those areas in which the patient feels s/he lacks control; and, finally, it plans strategies for helping the patient regain a healthy sense of control.
