Comedy Greats at the BBC – Marty Feldman, Spike Milligan, Eric Sykes, Dick Emery compilation 4 disc DVD.
From the lunatic antics of Spike Milligan and Marty Feldman, to the visual
gags of Eric Sykes and hilarious characters of Dick Emery – when it comes to
the greats of British comedy, these four ‘gentlemen’ are at the peak of
comic inventiveness and brilliance.
This four disc set brings together their very best sketches and performances at
the BBC.
Spike Milligan:
Some remember him from The Goons, but his work on television stamped Spike
Milligan’s surreal, chaotic and devastatingly funny humour on the
world’s imagination. This compilation features assorted lunacy from the
best of his BBC shows with Spike also interviewed about his career.
Dick Emery:
From toothy Vicars, busty blondes and ‘div’ skinheads, to camp honky tonkers
and the sexually frustrated ‘Miss Hettie’, Who doesn’t remember the
eclectic characters which filled The Dick Emery Show week after week? They’re
all here in this compilation from his long-running television series. Oooh you
are awful!
Eric Sykes:
Visual humour and awkward situations were Eric Sykes’ trademark. His BBC
series ‘Sykes’ ran for several years and this collection of classic footage
features hilarious moments with the help of the larger than life Hattie
Jacques.
Marty Feldman:
Zany, but clever slapstick were the tools of famed goggle-eyed comedian Marty
Feldman and these clips from his BBC series showcase his unique style that
recalls the era of silent comedy, with many penned by the likes of John Cleese
and Michael Palin.
Comedy Greats at the BBC Compilation Reviews:
“(Dick Emery) introduced some of the mediums most memorable and enduring comedic characters, skilfully brought to life by an undisputed master of his craft.” Television Heaven
“Sykes was a funny man. With his angular face just waiting to twitch into an expression of consternation, or to be framed by a knotted handkerchief, he was, as the comedian Miranda Hart put it, made for his trade.” The Telegraph
“Some of the sketches (from Marty Feldman's show) are as fondly remembered as the best that ‘Python’ had to offer, amongst them ‘The Day in the Life of a Stunt Man,’ ‘The Loneliness of the Long Distance Golfer’, ‘A Night in the Life of a Chartered Accountant’ and one memorable sketch in which Feldman pays a visit to the vet with a rather large basket in tow.” Television Heaven
“With the immortal words, 'I told you I was ill’, carved onto his tombstone, (Spike Milligan) undoubtedly got the very last laugh.” The Telegraph
