"Senior German Security Officer Tells His Side Of the Story"
4 stars"

Reinhold Eggers, Senior German Security Officer gives us the German perspective on Allied Prisoner of War camp, Oflag IV-C Colditz Castle.

Considered by the Germans to be escape-proof, the allies were to prove otherwise.

Egger provides insight into the steps Germans took and uncovered in constant battle to prevent the next escape. Despite the discovery of hidden tunnels, forged documents, impersonations, contraband – escapes still happened, much to their embarrassment and escapees account clarify how.

You’ll find plenty of adventure, suspense, excitement, unexpected surprises and some truly astounding escapes.

Highly recommended reading together with “Coldtiz – The Full Story”.

Reinhold Eggers one of the German staff who was Security Officer during the last years at Colditz. It is a compilation of the most spectacular escape attempts written by the escapers themselves. Eggers supports the stories with extracts from his Colditz diary which ran to 26 copybooks, with stories about the German staff and their characters, and a short account of the end of his war when he became a prisoner himself. It has some memorably funny moments (especially the tale of Max and Moritz, who "filled in" on parades), some very sad moments, and some descriptions of escapes that are truly astonishing - the Franz Josef attempt alone is worth a novel. 32 b/w photographs
