Classic Horse-Racing Quotes by Graham Sharpe
Sorry, this product is not currently available to order

It may be 'a magnificent triviality' but horse-racing is one of the best documented, most spoken about and memorably described of sports - the very 'Sport of Kings'. Graham Sharpe has collected and collated thousands of racing bon mots and quotable remarks from the sport's centuries of history to rehabilitate many long-forgotten turns of phrase and pithy chat. No section of the sport is neglected - jockeys, owners, trainers, lads, lasses, celebrities, racegoers, punters, writers and royals - all are represented with their own take on the turf. Read what comic Peter Kay thinks of serial father Frankie Dettori's attitude to nappies; why Elizabeth Taylor was so easy to train for; which trainer secretly longs to turn up in the royal enclosure at Royal Ascot in a shellsuit; which famous trainer is 'as cuddly as a dead hedgehog'; and whose unique excuse for missing a race was that he 'got head-butted in the stomach by a deer'.

Author Biography

Graham Sharpe has worked in the racing and betting industry for over thirty years. He is Media Relations Director for bookmakers William Hill and is a keen racegoer, who has seen Elvis Presley acting as official starter at a meeting in Germany; been given a winning tip by a racehorse at a Swedish track and who wrote the definitive and bestselling story of racing's most famous day - 26 September 1996 - when Frankie Dettori rode all seven winners on the card at Ascot, 'The Magnificent Seven'. He is a gambling expert whose previous Robson titles include 'Fourteen Million To One', 'Odds, Sods And Racing Certs' and who combined his knowledge of betting and football to write 'Free The Manchester United One' (1861056338), the story of British football's first fixed match. He lives in Pinner, Middlesex.
