Ralph Cropton seems to have it all. A wife who loves him, a good job as a partner of a solicitors' firm, a beautiful home and even an adoring mutt. But for some people everything isn't enough. Too fond of the pleasurable things in life, Ralph finds himself turning to drink more and more, and his thoughts constantly wandering to women other than his wife. Into the midst of his midlife turmoil comes Sparski, the homeless, carefree enigma - different to Ralph in so many ways, yet they develop an instant camaraderie. Despite the attempts of others to keep him on track - and Ralph's own half-hearted efforts - he finds the life he used to know spinning away from him. Will he ever find what he wants - and does he even know what that is?
