Description

Excerpt from Cholera, Its Character and Treatment: With Remarks on the Identity of the Indian and English, and a Particular Reference to the Disease as Now Existent at Newcastle and Its Neighbourhood Its apparent thickness has been remarked by most writers on Cho lera. Experiments have been made to determine the point with precision. Professor Hermann, of Moscow, found a much greater proportion of crassamentum than natural. He concludes, from his experiments, that the change of the composition of the blood is effected by a part of its ingre dients being abstracted by the discharges by stool and vomiting; and that the blood, by parting with its acetic acid, and a part of its watery parti cles, acquires that greater consistency and that tendency of separating its fibrine, which is observed during the disease.
