William Hurt and Academy Award winner Marlee Matlin light up the screen as John Leeds and Sarah Norman, two strong-willed people who discover that real love needs no words. John teaches at a school for the deaf. Sarah used to be the schools brightest student, though she refused to read lips, and is now employed as its custodian.

John immediately falls for the beautiful and stubborn Sarah, but soon realizes he must get past her anger in order to reach her heart.
