Description

Change-Seed explores issues of autonomy and identity in the work of 25 artists working mostly in photography and video, in addition to other media. While art communities in the United States are increasingly interested in contemporary art from China (Ai Wei Wei is a celebrity), very few understand or recognize the differences between the mainland, the SARs, and Taiwan. Change-Seed seeks to update American audiences on more recent developments in the Asian art world scene. In contrast to mainland China, the work is often small in size and technologically savvy, while reflecting similar concerns with cultural iconicity, the body, and functionality. Artists include: Occupy Art Group, Phoebe Man (Venice Biennale), Sunny Wang, Carol Lee Mei Kuen, Anita Yau, Wai Yim Wong, Samson Young, Laurent Segretier, and others. Artists selected by Curator-at-Large and previous CoCA Board Member (2010-2015), David Francis.
