Description

Most religious traditions have a rich, if largely forgotten, heritage of involvement in medical issues of life, death and health. Religious values influence our behaviour and attitudes toward sickness, sexuality and lifestlye, as well as more controversial issues such as abortion and euthanasia. The essays in this book illuminate the history of health and medicine within the Judeao-Christian tradition, bringing together 20 articles from scholars in the fields of history of religion and history of medicine. The volume is intended to provide an overview of how religious values have come to affect the practice of medicine and medical care.
