Candyman (4K UHD + Blu-Ray)
Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld's Monkeypaw Productions, the filmmakers behind Universal's Oscar-winning blockbuster Get Out, has partnered with Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures to re-imagine the 1992 horror classic Candyman for a contemporary audience. Based on Clive Barker's short story The Forbidden, the film will be directed by Nia DaCosta (Little Woods), from a screenplay by Peele and Rosenfeld. A ‘spiritual sequel’ to the first film, this new Candyman returns to the neighborhood where the legend began: the now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood. Production is expected to begin Spring 2019.
Critic Reviews:
- " DaCosta's film draws from Chicago's history, specifically the real life Cabrini-Green housing project, to explore the terrors of the Urban Gothic through a Black perspective. " – C.H. Newell (Father Son Holy Gore)
- " Candyman is a movie worth watching. " – Dante James (Film Threat)
- " Though it tries to be too many things in one, the themes of injustice, racism, and being the agent of one's own story that rise to the surface are the ones that speak the loudest … " – Steven Prokopy (Third Coast Review)
