"Most Good"
4 stars"

One of the few games I've enjoyed in the past few years. Pretty good single player campaign that leads inevitably to a multiplayer mode that is great! The speed at which the pace can change is quite impressive and leads to some pretty thrilling clashes and frags. Scenery is nice and varied throughout the levels and offer places for every player type and style (complete with tents and sleeping bags for the snipers ;D ). There's a huge number of weapons an gadgets to mess with and blast people to bits accordingly all of which have a use. Then there's the perks system which allows one to tailor advantages for their specific player types.

One thing that has always bugged me however is the engine itself. For some reason its been clunky and flaky on all machines I've played it on including a Phenom box and an Intel quad with a GTX275. That said, this one little niggle is well worth working through for the rewarding gameplay and entertaining blats on multplayer.

"Huge Surprise"
5 stars"

I wasn't a big fan of the CoD franchise. However, when I got this game, all that changed. It immediately became one of my favorite games.

The graphix is incredible, yet amazingly, it doesn't require a very high-spec rig to run it. Game play is realistic, story mode is fantastic, and the different modes online promises hours and hours of fun!

The fact that despite CoD5 is out, and there're still around 15,000 servers online everyday shows the popularity of the game, and the quality of the gameplay.

It's certainly worth every cent of the $100!!

"An epic game on every level."
5 stars"

if you play only one war themed fps, make it this one… the single player game is pretty short, but it makes up for it with unbelievably intense situations, an interesting story, and amazing levels of immersiveness – and the ending… wow, i wont give it away, but what a heart ripping and amazing conclusion, this really is one of the best games of the year…

…and thats just based on the gameplay and story alone. You also get some of the best high end visuals and art design you will have ever seen, brilliant and powerful sound and voice performances, and fun multiplayer as well… but overall, its the immersiveness that i keep coming back to… you really feel like your part of an important and epic situation, something you really need to experience for yourself, the emotion and excitement you get from this game, rival the best from any entertainment medium, game or movie.

The game runs very well. Its not as visually impressive as crysis (but, really, what is?) but it is still an absolute visual feast, and it still manages to run at a very respectable fps.

No game this year has impressed me this much… The combat sequences are so mind blowing, that ive replayed several of them just to record them with fraps to share on youtube, they were that thrilling…

Im giving this 5 stars… I dont usually like to give perfect scores, but i feel 4 is a bit too low for what really is a game that is faultless in its execution. I can honestly say you will not be let down by this game. Oh, and when youve finished it, make sure you stick around till after the credits :)

"Generally perfect"

A lot of people seem to be complaining that this game is too short, but they need to realise that quality always comes at the cost of quantity. High end games are getting harder and harder to make these days because our expectations of the graphics, game play and depth are getting so much higher – but we expect to pay the same amount that we did for games that were relatively easy to make ten years ago.

Pull your heads out of the sand people. Games are going to get shorter if we keep expecting developers to increase the quality. They need to hire more people, spend longer making the games (including night shifts) and spend far more money than in the past. I for one am impressed that Infinity Ward managed to fit as much content in as they did. This was one of the best $100 I've spent.

"Intense!"
5 stars"

As many people have said, the single player mode is quite short (5–6hours unless you choose harder difficulty), but it will be one of the most intense and great War-FPS single player experience ever.

Story is not something new, but the way they present the story made the game outstanding. There are many amazing moments in the game. The game also has great voice acting (Personally I like S.A.S (UK) voice acting more then U.S army). Sound effects and musics are great too.

You can probably finish single player surprisingly fast. However multiplayer mode is equally great. You can level-up your chracter to obtain new perks such as ‘Last Stand’, which let you fire several shots before dying after you are shot down. You can unlock more weapons and weapon customisations as you level-up, also when you make multiple kills in a row you can call for an air support (also let you use enemy detecting rader). It's very addicting.

I would recommend this game for both single player and multi player fans. Single player is short but definitly worth it. Multiplay is fun, and will last hours and hours. You can't go wrong with this one. Four and half star!

"Not as it seems"
4 stars"

While the graphics of the game is good, the single player AI is useless as it is in previous Call of Duty games. Now what I mean by that is that, lets say you decide to have the game on hard difficulty, then all of a sudden (even when out of enemy sight) you'll find yourself dodging about 10 grenades which are ALL aimed at you! This is a typical poor AI plot which has annoyed me in every single Call of Duty game and it can get quite annoying.

Otherwise the game is quite fun, and you'll find yourself playing certain missions over again for the intense rush!

"The real oil- VERY short!"
3 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

VERY short, take your time and make it last- you might just get up to six hours! I personally don't think this edition is good value for money as you're paying in effect $15 per hour, more if you're fast, there's better value out there. The game does have potential though due to story line and variety of missions (short!!), so if you don't mind the ticket price or get a used copy it'll fill in a rainy afternoon ok. $100 an afternoon though… shame on Activision- at least release some more levels! Last comment: short and expensive games seem to be a growing trend so I will now in future wait a while to get more accurate info, then buy used.

"Multiplayer only?"
2 stars"

The single player campaign is pitiful and I would say it's a joke to expect people to be happy with just a few hours game-time.. If you're not all that interested in multiplayer then save your coins. That's all it is really. I was expecting a lot more after so many positive reviews to be honest.

The graphics are good but not that great too. Not sure why people are impressed by them at all.

"Fantastic"
5 stars"

Get ready for a gritty story and some wicked multiplayer in Call of Duty 4.The single-player campaign is over in a flash, but the high quality of that campaign and its terrific multiplayer options make Call of Duty 4 a fantastic package.

"Best Game EVER!"
5 stars"

I Love This Game Never gets boring And I Have Over 230 Hours Clocked On It . Realism is Great And Graphics Are belivable And Clear. Easy To Learn And Fun To play 5 STARS!!!!!!!!!

"Multiplayer!"
4 stars"

I personally found call of duty 4 a great online game but lacking in the campaign department.

The campaign is very standard and does not push any boundaries, and is quite short as well.

Multiplayer however is Awesome, with great game modes, heaps of guns and good gameplay. Create – a – class is very initiative and adds to the multiplayer experience greatly

"Best FPS ever..."
5 stars"

From raiding cargo ships to gunning down from a AC-130 gun ship… this game has everything… there is no other First Person shooter better than this (maybe Modern Warfare 2 sequel to this)… worth spending your money…

"The Best Modern FPS at the moment"
5 stars"

Released in 2007 people! It is 2009 now and the game is still $75 to $100 new and $40 to $70 used!! If that doesn't make it obvious this is still the best “modern semi-realistic” FPS game available at the moment… or to put it another way this is the best multi-player military shooter. Single-player is probably pretty short as mentioned above, I never finished it just went straight to multi-player which is excellent, but you need to be ready to be frustrated if you're not in “super-twitch” mode while playing as the action is VERY QUICK and there are a fair few “uber-elite” players which makes being a beginner player hard at first. As long as you meet the minimum specs of 6600GT etc the game engine is very efficient, you won't see lots of crashes like in BF2 or long load times like BF2.. it's just quick, and the server browser is sweet!

"The Best COD yet!!"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Quite simply, it is fantastic and worth every cent. The graphics and gameplay are spot-on, with the minor flaw of a limited single player. Despite this, I have played it end to end 3 times. Not everyone has the luxury of a GTX275 and a 32" Monitor to play in 1080p, but I do, and this game is truely amazing. Multiplayer is diverse and servers still well populated, with many bonuses and unlocks. It has been out for a while, and with a new COD due, the price will come down soon, so keep and eye out for specials and get it when you can! It is a must for any first person gamer.

"Absolutely Perfect"
5 stars"

Call of Duty 4:Modern Warfare has certainly lived up to the expectations of all the other CoD games.Personally I wasn't very thrilled with the single player campaign but as soon as I completed it on hard I got on to the multiplayer.I was addicted and although there were about 5 patches that did nothing Activision introduced some new maps.I have played 1000 hours and am still loving it.

GREAT game!

best buy ever made great quality with heaps of weapons and extra maps to play online i love this game and will suggest it to everone of my mates!!!! thanks guys good service to shipped quickly and efficently got to my hous in no time at all. i must say however the game is good single player but with mulitiplayer online its a whole new level

"Fantastic but short living."
4 stars"

Installation had no problems what so ever, it was pretty fast too. Nor did I ever encounter any bugs, to my advantage. Absolutely loved the game, great graphics, love the little mission introduction at the start whilst loading, sound effects are pretty mad, but, the fun was short lived for single player. If you're looking for a game that combines awesomeness + action that seems to be endless, I'd probably think twice about buying this game. :(

On second hand, multiplayer was just elevated to a new level of pure epic-ness. Addicting and great for gamers with all types of experience, noob – pro. ;)

"Great Fun"

Set in modern times adds a whole new life to the Call of Duty series. While the single player might be a little short the multi player is amazing. What they have done with leveling up in multiplayer with new weapons, skills and challenges each level keep the life of this game long!

"best game out"

dont let any of these other reviews put you off buying this game it is one of the best games i have ever played online is amazing recomend 100% to any one wanting a great game

"Undenyably awesome."
4 stars"

Be warned, for some reason it doesn't run as well as the demo.

It's awesome but there are a few things I didn't like, like no save or load features. It autosaves quite frequently so that's not too big a problem, but you can't load a game from the last checkpoint. So if you want to go back and redo something you have to get yourself killed. That's pretty lousy game design in my opinion. You have no health meter. You can take an infinite amount of damage as long as you don't take too much at once, so for example you can get pasted by a machine gun and just get under cover for a moment and you're fine! Another annoyance are the ingame messages that appear nearly constantly, in big letters right in the middle of the screen. There's also (as there usually is) respawn. Enemies constantly spawn from buildings until you run in and capture them.

The action for most of the game is fast and furious and definitely THE most intense gameplay I've ever seen. You're constantly moving forward with your team. It's very heavily scripted, but it all works flawlessly.

It certainly could be longer, and I'd have liked a few missions where you're allowed to wander around a bit and take your time instead of the constant go, go, go!. You miss a lot of the beautiful detail the game has to offer because you're never allowed to slow down and smell the coffee.

One thing I loved are the wonderfully bleak, derelict levels that remind me of the environments in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. I LOVE stuff like that!

I'm not very interested in MP but I gave it a go… for about a minute. I got killed within the first few seconds every time I entered a map.

"Frantic online action"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

I grabbed a copy of cod4 and played a solid amount of single player on veteran difficulty to warm me up to online play. When I jumped online I managed to find some ausie gamearena servers with not too bad ping and started anticipating the unleashing of fun and fury on the other players (have since added the NZ server list into my favorites http://www.cod4.net.nz/serverlist.html). Once I got into the actual game I was completely and utterly destroyed. I was knifed repeatedly, knife to the back, knife to the head, knife to pinky, knife to the groin, lead to the groin, lead to the face, lead and knife to the jugular. I couldn't believe it. Wherever I turned there was someone waiting to open up a tanker load of humiliating ownage from all angles outside my view.

The skill disparity was really depressing, me being a raw noob fighting against veterans fully leveled. Even after playing long enough to level up to 23–24 or thereabouts I was getting pulverised. It seems impossible to focus on doing something for even 1 second before some guy sprinted through a back or side doorway and knifes the socks off you. The pace is frenetic.

The game was really fantastic, it's just that the skill disparity was super depressing and for a beginner was killer depressing. I wouldn't be surprised if some beginners simply gave up after realising the mountain they’d have to climb against the crazy hard online opposition because the fun factor kinda gets strangled a tad when the pros are slaughtering you .

I am now fully leveled, and yes, there is a killing harvest waiting at the end of the long tunnel, I've finally managed to get more kills than deaths in my overall stat log.

"Best fps ive bought ever"
5 stars"

This game is amazing

The single player may be a tad short but it is epic!! I hated all the other world war 2 ones and I loved this man!!! This game online is even better!!! Competitive and u get to upgrade weapons and rank!.. Really is worth the money!

"Wicked"

This game is awesome, a brilliant single player campaign followed by great fun online play with the perks and weapons. Highly recommended, one of the best FPS I have played.

"War never looked so good!"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

This game has excellent graphics, terrific sounds and addictive gameplay. There is actually some semblance of a plot in this game – basically trying to stop some crazy Russians and Middle Easterners (good to see a classic and modern baddies merge so nicely) from detonating nuclear weapons. The missions are nicely introduced and feels like you are playing a big part in the story. Group dynamics are good as you are never fighting alone. The levels are linear but it never quite feels like a tunnell-shooter. The only reason this game didn't get five stars is that it did feel like more of the same from the CoD series, just in modern form. Be that as it may, it still is a great game to have in your collection.

"Amazing Shooter - Short Campaign"
3 stars"

Wow, the graphics I must say, will blow you away. The whole environment, the gameplay, it's fantastic. Certainly my pick out of the whole Call of Duty series, and an intense and awesome WW2 shooter. Very, very disappointingly short, finished in 5 hours. I guess thats how FPS are nowadays, very short. If you're into multiplayer it wouldn't be a total waste, as it will keep you playing for a while. If you are expecting a long and exciting campaign that makes it worth your time and money, this isn't it as it is over just as you get into it fully. If so, you will be better off getting it from a bargain bin, as it is just another FPS (although certainly one of the best). If you expect an awesome shooter with amazing graphics and don't care about the length and replayability, this is for you!!

"Intense...COD4"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Ok…You've got to ask yourself why you buy these games. I used to buy FPS for the single player mode. Playing multiplayer on a LAN was just a nice add on. COD2 changed all that, in that it was one of those multiplayer games you could play constantly online. It has been a favourite of mine for the last 2 years or more but it is getting tired. Enter COD4, and not only does it play just as fast, but it does so in style. I expect to finish the staggeringly good single player section shortly, but it is all class believe me. The reason I bought this though, is for the multiplayer, since COD2 was so good in this respect. Once again Infinity Ward has shown their pedigree, and thought of numerous details that really needed to be addressed. Graphically, the game is superb with blindingly accurate mapping and detail. Weapons load swiftly, and replays and maps load quicker. As one other reviewer pointed out, it actually runs smoother and faster than COD2, and is therefore that much more intense. Need a FPS multiplayer for the summer.? Get this. This is class. .....I've got your 6.

"SP - skippable, MP - enjoyable"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Until now, there has been very few modern warfare FP shooters that I've enjoyed, FEAR and to a certain degree Stalker… most modern warfare shooters don't have the same atmosphere as WWII. I had figured if someone can get it right then it would be Infinity Ward and the COD franchise… COD2 is probably my all time favourite.

I think they did a great job with COD4, the only downside that really is an issue is that I finished COD4 in two sittings on Hardened… I didn't bother with the lower ranks after doing the training course. From memory, COD2 took several weeks with lots of replayability. The single player campaign in COD4 is a lot shorter than even MOH Airborune which was pretty short.

I did play some MP and I must say it was very enjoyable and not the frag fest I've experienced in the past with Modern warfare shooters which is a nice change since I havn't bothered playing much of anything online for at least 6 months..... I was into BF1942 in a big way back in the day.

Anyhoo, the game runs smooth as with everything maxed on my system, which was a good surprise after playing Crysis demo. Overall the gameplay was enjoyable and graphics and atmosphere are brilliant, but if you're not into Multiplayer, the single player campaign is so short you could safely give this one a miss. __________________ Opteron 175 Dual Core (OC to 2.5ghz)| Asus A8N32 SLI Deluxe | Mushkin REDLINE 2GB DDR500 CL3–3–2–8 | 1 x XFX 8800GTS (640MB) | X-Fi | 150GB Raptor (boot) | 2×74GB Raptor Raid-0 (Games) | 1×320GB HD | 4 x DVD/RW | Silverstone Strider 600W | Auroroa 3D case / XP Pro SP2 | Samsung 226BW 22" Widescreen

"Best game I have ever played!"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

I love the game. Have spend about an hour on singleplayer (easy mode) and am fully loving it. Then I went to mulitiplayer and got smoked by some of the online hardouts – im hoping I will get used to multiplayer within the next few hours. Has to be the best game I have ever played and the graphics are amazing!

"Worth Buying"
4 stars"

Here is what I think of CoD 4, I just clocked single player, and have spent about 1hr on Multiplayer. Basically Call of Duty 4 in single player is very entertaining for the first few maps, After that the maps all have 1 or 2 entertaining parts. It becomes too repetitive just shooting person after person, Yes I know its a first person shooter, but it just feels to repetitive.

You play as 2 Characters “Soap” and “Jackson” Soap is in the SAS and Jackson is in the U.S.M.C I got a little confused then I realised I had 2 roles to play.

Sure, The graphics are good,The sound and feel is good on singleplayer. The short time I spent on Multiplayer wasnt much of a great experience. It was good but my latency was about 110–160, when it should of been around 60–80. Quite a few players were experiencing this.

I'd recommend buying this game, But be prepared to clock it within 3–6 hrs. Im sure Multiplayer will be great when the lag thing is sorted out, Maybe I was just on a crap server ( It was a New Zealand server ). Kind of makes me a bit sad that now I've completed it and all there is to do is play online, which is just killing people without a story, But Hey!Thats always fun.

Go and buy this, but do not rush out and buy it on your credit card :)

"nice graphic"

haven't played it much, maybe first 10mins only but it looked really good and gameplay was ok too.. And one thing that needs to be mentioned is it ran smoother than cod2. with a better graphic details.
it was quite impressive.

"Amazing!"
3 stars"

The graphics look simply amazing! This game is sure to be a winner and the best out of the Call of Duty series! The gameplay, the amount of weapons, the environment…the only letdown would be if this game was disappointingly short e.g Halo 3. Still looks like an awesome game to play though!
