Description

Brother Bear:
In this spectacular coming-of-age story based on ancient myths, an impulsive boy named Kenai is magically transformed into a bear. He has no choice but to see the world through another's eyes while he learns some valuable life lessons and strives to regain his human form. Unable to communicate with his human brother, Kenai teams up with Koda, an irrepressible bear cub, and sets out on a courageous journey of selfdiscovery.

Review

"Brother Bear has a dramatic story--after he kills a bear, a young hunter named Kenai (voiced by Joaquin Phoenix, Gladiator) in prehistoric North America is turned into a bear himself and hunted by his own brother--but the animated movie's tone is more earnest and warm than tragic, focusing on the unfolding relationship between Kenai and an orphaned bear cub named Koda (voiced by Jeremy Suarez). However, it's often the comic supporting characters who prove the most popular, and a pair of moose voiced by Rick Moranis and Doug Thomas in their McKenzie brothers/Canadian dude mode (from SCTV and the movie Strange Brew) will win many fans. The songs by Phil Collins are typically negligible, but the hand-drawn animation is lush (occasional flashes of computer-generated animation clash with the movie's overall look). Kids will also enjoy the mammoths; no sabre-toothed tigers, unfortunately." --Bret Fetzer

Brother Bear 2:
We're back in an all-new movie, eh? Beauty. And not just us moose but the large bear (that's Kenai) and his little brother bear (that's Koda) and also this new girl named Nita. She's a handful, eh? Nita knew Large Bear way back when he wasn't a bear. That was in the first movie, remember? Anyway, they thought they were gonna be together forever even though they get along like two angry beavers in a mud hut. Okay, so, now the Great Spirits say they have to go on a great big, exciting journey to break the pact.
