Description

Excerpt from Bounds on the Elements of the Equivalent Network for Scattering in Waveguides: II. Application to Dielectric Obstacles In the preceding paper1 the Kato2 method for obtaining rigorous variational bounds on the phase shifts was adapted to scattering by obstacles in waveguides. In this paper the theory is applied to several Specific examples of obstacles in a rectangular waveguide. The application to metallic obstacles is com plicated by the requirement that the trial function ut be normal to the surface of the obstacle, and it therefore seemed preferable to limit ourselves in the present paper to dielectric obstacles.
