Description

Children will crave reading time once they get a taste of this clever book log journal. Every time you and your child finish a story, fill out a journal entry with the title, author and rating of the book. Then, tear off the perforated corner of each page to see the bookworm “eat” his way through the journal.

Not only does the Book worm Journal promote lifelong reading habits, but it helps parents and children maintain a reading routine whether it’s before bed, playtime, naptime—or whenever the bookworm works up an appetite.

  • Spiral Bound journal

  • Reading log on one side of each page and varied creative prompts on the other side.
  • At the back there’s a handy list of Caldecott Medal Winners and short, basic lists of librarian-recommended favorites for different ages.

User Reviews

“Our 8 1/2 year old son is really enjoying this journal after about a month of use. We were looking for something to help him with his comprehension and reinforce his joy of reading. This fun journal is just the thing. The book is spiral bound so little hands can easily access their work. Each page has a perforated corner to remove as the book worm eats his way through the journal. As your child completes a page in the journal (either a book or a chapter), he can remove the page corner. These eaten corners are also a handy bookmark to find their "spot” in the journal. The pages are lined with large spacing so young readers can easily write their thoughts neatly." Cynthia

“…My oldest is currently at the end of first grade and we've just started recording the books she's reading. For each book you've read (and you can document whether it was read to your child, read together, or read by your child alone) you will record the title, author, the # of stars (from 1–5) as determined by the parent and child separately, and then there's blank lines for your child to record their thoughts. Each book goes on a separate page in the journal. Then, on the back of that page are activities for your child. She can write the new vocabulary words, insert herself into the story, tell what she likes to eat while reading, etc. I think this is a really fun journal which offers many tools: keeping an organized lists of books read to date, having your child document her experiences with the book, and also having your child complete an activity in relationship to the book. I'm excited to start on this journey with her, and will purchase additional copies for my younger daughter who start kindergarten in the fall. We will begin by recording what books I read to her during the school year, and will end the school year by recording the books we read together as well as the books she's reading to me. I can't wait!” Monique

“My 4 and 6 year old feel so proud when they finish a book and get to record it in their Bookworm Journal. They especially love peeling the perforated corner off when they are done because they like thinking that the bookworm is eating its way through the journal. There is also a spot for parental ratings so you can get involved rating the books with the kids.” -Plus2 Plus2
