Description

Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) is one of the somatoform disorders. It is defined as a preoccupation with an imagined defect in ones appearance, where the persons concern is markedly excessive. They may spend many hours a day checking mirrors or comparing themselves to others, and often have needless dermatological treatment or cosmetic surgery - sometimes performed by themselves. Diagnosis is usually slow and treatment frequently inappropriate. This book is a treatment manual for BDD using cognitive behaviour therapy and contains a chapter on pharmacotherapy. Detailed client handouts and information will make it accessible to a wide range of professionals.
