From the moment it first appeared at the Cannes Film Festival in 1959 - where it won the Palme d'Or - it was clear Black Orpheus was a very special film.

Adapted from the ancient Greek myth, Orpheus and Eurydice, we are transported to modern day Rio de Janeiro in Camus’ stunning interpretation of the story of a youth who travels to the land of the dead to bring back the woman he loves.

With a joyuous, rapturous, unforgettable musical score that made international stars of composers, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luis Bonfa. Black Orpheus brought the eruptive, convulsive, infectious beat of the Latin American pop sound "bossa nova" to the world.

This bitter-sweet romantic tragedy has charmed audiences the world over with its beauty, colour, and - above all - its music.
