In this book, now featuring a preface by the present Prince von Bismarck, Dr Volker Ullrich explodes the myth that Bismarck was just the 'man of iron and blood': The 'Founder of the Reich' spent the rest of his career working to preserve peace in Europe to protect the Reich he had created through war.
Dr. Volker Ullrich was born in 1943 and has studied history, literature and philosophy. Since 1990 he has been in charge of a department called 'The Political Book' at the Hamburg-based weekly newspaper Die Zeit. His most recent book was The Nervous Great Power. Ascent and decline of the German Empire 1871-1918.
