Spain, Spring 1931: Fernando, a young deserter fleeing through the countryside, meets Manolo, a wise and wizened elderly painter now retired from the art world and the world alike - who offers him assistance and protection. the day arrives however, when Fernando must leave, making wat for Manolo's four daughters who are coming from Madrid for a few days visit with their father.
When, Fernando sees the four - Clara, Violeta, Rocio and Luz - descend from the train, it isn't as though he consciously decides to return to Manolo's home, his feet decide for him. This film is a chronicle and a portrait of the days Fernando will spend in the company of Manolo and his four daughters.
